Inter striker Christian Vieri will miss Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final, second-leg match against Milan, after failing to recover from a knee injury.

Vieri, top scorer in Serie A this season, with 24 goals, has been sidelined with the injury and despite optimistic noises made by Inter coach Hector Cuper, Vieri was not named in the squad for the second leg.

“I asked for a (medical) analysis about the work he has done to recover,” he said.

“Vieri wanted to play and to be available but I need to have at least a minimum of security.”

“He took it well,” Cuper added.

“If the risks are too high then the player understands that it is the right solution for him as well”.

Argentine Hernan Crespo and Uruguayan Alvaro Recoba are expected to lead the attack for Inter.
