Wales appointed John Toshack as their new national coach.

Former Real Madrid coach, Toshack, 55, replaces Mark Hughes who resigned in September to take charge of Premier League club Blackburn Rovers.

The FAW say Toshack received the full backing of the council.

“This is one of the few jobs in world football that motivates me and appeals to me, hope Wales can benefit from my experience,” said the 55 -year-old.

Toshack walked out on his country after one game in charge 10 years ago, a 3-1 defeat against Norway.

“Management’s often about timing, about being in the right place at the right time,” said Toshack.

“This World Cup campaign won’t be easy, but I’ve coaches over 1,000 games in six countries and look forward to a tough challenge.”
