Heiko Weber will take temporary charge of Energie Cottbus until a permanent replacement for coach Petrik Sander in found, the Bundesliga club have confirmed.
Cottbus, currently bottom of the table with only two points from six games, initially appointed Sander’s assistant, Thomas Hossmang, as interim coach but he stepped down because of his relationship with Sander, who was fired on Sunday.
“We will continue the search for a suitable successor with the necessary speed, but we will not rush,” Manager Steffen Heidrich said on the club’s Web site.
Weber, who previously coached the club’s under-23 team, will be in charge when Cottbus meet Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
Sander was the first coach from the Bundesliga to be sacked this season.
