Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein has confirmed that two national teams tried to persuade Arsene Wenger to leave Highbury last summer.

Dein said: “Arsene is one of the best and during Euro 2004, two national teams approached him under my nose.

“But he is committed to the club. He has brought in a lot of the talent and feels beholden to them.”

Wenger, who has led the Gunners to three Premiership titles, signed a new contract earlier this week which will keep him at Arsenal until 2008.
