Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called for FA Cup replays to be scrapped.

The French coach was speaking after his side were held 2-2 by Chelsea in Saturday’s FA Cup encounter, necessitating a replay between the two sides on March 25.

Given Arsenal’s involvement in the Premier League and the Champions League, Wenger would prefer to see FA Cupmatches settled after one meeting.

“I would rather finish the games in one day from the third round,” admitted.

However, the Arsenal boss understands that there is little prospect of support for his suggestion, especially among lower league clubs, many of whom prefer the option of additional revenue to a reduced fixture list.

“But replays makemoney and clubs will not vote for it,” he added.

Arsenal are also at the forefront of the campaign to see the number of clubs in the Premier League reduced, but their efforts have so far produced little backing.
