Westerveld linked with Atletico switch

,Atletico Madrid are considering making a bid for Real Sociedad’s Sander Westerveld as they seek a successor to German Burgos.

Burgos is out of contract in the summer and he has produced some erratic performances this season.

Since leaving Liverpool over two years ago, Westerveld has been instrumental in Sociedad’s recent success. His buy-out clause of €30 million could be a problem for Atletico but Westerveld hinted that he would consider a move to the capital.

“Atletico are an institution in Spain,” the keeper told De Telegraaf.

“Despite having struggled in recent seasons, they are still a top team with a big tradition.”
