Dutch first division strugglers Willem II Tilburg have sacked coach Robert Maaskant after a disappointing start to the season.

The club said in a statement that they decided to dispense with Maaskant – who joined in 2004 – in the hope of reversing their recent decline.

Tilburg are 17th in the 18-team league with eight points from 12 matches and the final straw for the board came with Friday night’s 4-3 home defeat to Vitesse Arnhem.
