Jonathan Woodgate is expected to be out for 10 weeks after suffering another setback as he works his way back to full fitness.

There were fears the Real Madrid defender may need surgery which would rule him out for the remainder of the season, but a visit to a specialist clinic in America has eased those concerns.

“These 10 weeks are the time we estimate will be necessary to guarantee proper healing,” said Real doctor Alfonso Del Corral.

Woodgate, who joined Madrid from Newcastle in the summer, was hoping to make his debut in a friendly on Tuesday, but last week he suffered a relapse in training.
