England international Jonathan Woodgate has pulled up in training with pain in his left thigh, Real Madrid have confirmed.

Woodgate, who had been expecting to make his Real Madrid debut in 10 days’ time, had been playing in a training match between first-teamers and reserves when he felt a sudden pain in his leg forcing him to leave the pitch.

The former Leeds defender, who cost Real €20m when he joined from Newcastle in the summer, arrived in Spain with a torn left thigh muscle, but had been working his way back to full fitness in the last few weeks.
