Sean Wright-Phillips has completed his £21million transfer from Manchester City to Chelsea after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical with the English Premier League champions.

City accepted Chelsea’s revised bid for the England winger on Saturday just 24 hours after rejecting an offer from Chelsea of £20m.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was delighted with his latest signing, saying: “He is young. He has space for his development and he has the qualities that everyone is looking for in a modern footballer.”

“He is quick, he is intelligent, he is creative, he can break by himself and shape the balance of the team.

“With him [Wright-Phillips], Joe Cole, Arjen Robben, and Damien Duff we have a fantastic group of wingers to compete to give us the best every match and with him we will not have the kind of problems we had last season,” he said.

Mourinho added: “This season with the World Cup in the summer, there will be a lot of friendlies for national teams, and with five competitions we need this balance we have it in every other position.”

“We didn’t have this balance and this internal competition without him so we got him and I’m very pleased we did.”
