Barcelona midfielder Xavi has played down speculation linking him with a summer move to Chelsea.

It has been suggested that Jose Mourinho may turn to the Spain international if he fails persuade Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard to move to Stamford Bridge.

However, the 25-year-old, who has been with the club since he was a schoolboy, is happy to stay at Barcelona.

“The most important thing now is the game against Albacete and that we win La Liga as soon as possible,” he told Marca.

“All subjects of signings and offers are necessarily left for when the season finishes.

“I am happy and would like to retire in Barcelona but, at the end of the season, when everything is determined, that will be the moment for considering other aspects.”
