Middlesbrough have made Dutch international Boudewijn Zenden their fifth signing of the summer.

Zenden spent the whole of last season on loan at the Riverside, and scored one of the goals that won the club the League Cup – their first ever major trophy.

Zenden’s former club Chelsea agreed to let him leave on a free, and in doing so wrote off the £7.5m that they spent on him 3 years ago.

Acccording to Middlesbrough’s official website, 27-year-old Zenden has signed a one year contract, with an option to extend it. He is expected to be officially unveiled as a Boro player at a press conference later today.
