Marcello Lippi has suggested that Gianfranco Zola could still be called up by Italy.

Lippi believes that, even at 38, Zola could fulfil a role within the current international set-up.

“When I met all the players this summer, Zola wanted to know if he had a chance,” revealed Lippi.

“I said yes, because the door is always open to everyone.

“In certain situations a 38-year-old player can be useful.

“The important thing is the enthusiasm in answering the call-up.”

Lippi also insisted that Christian Vieri and Alessandro Del Piero were still very much in his plans.

“They never went away,” said Lippi.

“They don’t need to revive their chances because they are still part of the national side.”
