Carlos Alberto, captain of Brazil’s 1970 World Cup winning team, has played down the abilities of current Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari claiming that he is not as gifted as many believe.

In an interview with Goal, Alberto said: “Felipao is a great coach, but he is not the best in the world. He won a World Cup with Brazil (in 2002), but so did other coaches. It’s not like Brazil would not stand a chance without him.”

“He is doing a great job though. He did well when people started questioning his work. He is a great coach becasue of everything he has won in the past, at club and international level.”

“However, the fact that he has won the World Cup before does not mean he’s the answer again now. No modern coach has won the World Cup twice.”

Scolari has overseen an improvement in Brazil’s results since returning to the job after taking over from Mano Menezes.
