Aston Villa’s Turkish international defender Alpay coould soon be joining Leeds United after the player confirmed that his agent was holding talks with the club.
The 29-year-old demanded a move from Villa Park after the club refused to agree to the player’s 50 percent wage increase.
“My agent is talking with Leeds United,” said Alpay.
“I want to stay in England. “I think I will play at Leeds for this season. I do not want to stay at Villa.”
However, Leeds boss Terry Venables has played down talk of any new arrivals at Elland Road before the transfer deadline on August 31.
“I don’t know if there will be any transfer dealings betweennow and August 31” said Venables to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“I don’t expect anything to happen. All I’m doingis getting on with preparing the team for the next match.
“I won’t be sitting there by the phone every day waiting for it to ring. I have much more important things to do than that.”
