Rangers’ defender Lorenzo Amoruso has emerged as a target for Newcastle United, but according to the player’s agent, he has no desire to leave Scotland.

Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson recently confirmed he was interested in signing an Italian, and Amoruso’s agent Andrea D’Amico has admitted that he was approached in connection with his client.

“Newcastle contacted me but I told them Lorenzo wasn’t interested,” he told The Daily Record.

“He is happy and, when the club want to talk about extending his deal again, we will be delighted.”

Newcastle, whose erratic form this season has been attributed to their porous defence, are expected to turn theirattention to Marseille’s Daniel van Buyten.
