Argentina cruised into the final of the Copa America with a classy 3-0 win against holders Colombia in Lima last night.
Javier Saviola and Andres D’Alessandro missed the game through injury, but their replacements, Luciano Figueroa and Carlos Tevez, both played a major part in taking the Marcelo Bielsa’s team through.
After a spirited opening by both sides the Argentines took hold of the game, another fabulous free kick by Tevez opening the scoring just after half an hour. The 20 year-old, who had scored the winner against Peru in the quarter-finals after coming on as a substitute, curled the ball around the wall giving Colombian keeper Henao no chance.
Five minutes after the restart Figueroa broke into the penalty area, drew the defence and provided Lucho Gonzales an easy finish from 15 yards.
A well-worked free-kick provided the third with just ten minutes to go, Juan Pablo Sorin powering a diving header past Henao.
On Sunday Argentina will face the winners of Wednesday’s Brazil-Uruguay semi-final, they’ll be in confident mood after this commanding win.
