Arsenal and Everton are believed to have entered negotiations to sign Turkey goalkeeper Rustu Recber.
The 29-year-old Fenerbahce keeper attracted the attention of several clubs after an inpressive performance during the World Cup finals where he helped Turkey to 3rd place.
Everton’s need for a keeper is acute with the club’s boss David Moyes desperate to sign a new stopper before the Premeir League season kicks off in August. Successive bids for Derby’s Martin Poomhave been rejected and Moyes has now switched his attention to Rustu.
Ironically, Wenger may be prompted to move for Rustu because his second choice keeper Richard Wright has been linked with a move to Everton while first choice David Seaman is appproaching the end of his Highbury career.
Rustu recently claimed to have turned down a move to Manchester United out of loyalty to his club, but with the player being available on a free transfer in 12 months time, it is thought Fenerbache would prefer to cash in now rather than lose the player for nothing in a year’s time.
