French defender, PascalCygan is expected to complte his move from French First Division side Lille to Arsenal in the next 24 hours.

The Gunners have been looking to complete the move for some time and Cygan visited the Premiership champions several weeks ago.

The 28-year-old has impressed the coaching staff at the Highbury with his performances in the Champions League this season. Cygan has been playing with Lille for seven years and was voted Best Player in the French First Division by France-Football magazine for the 2000/2001 season.

Cygan’s arrival is likely to signal the retirement of defender Tony Adams.

“We were at Arsenal this morning and spoke with the club to discuss terms of the contract,” Cygan’s agent, Frederic Dobraje said.

“Discussions are still going on but we should finalise the deal on Tuesday afternoon.”
