Valencia’s Roberto Ayala admitted he is “flattered”at being linked with a move to Leeds, but insists no deal has been agreed yet.

Asked about the news that Leeds were considering making an offer for the 29-year-old Argentinian international, Ayala admitted to be being in the dark about the Valencia’s plans for him.

“Until I have something concrete, I cannot say anything but it is flattering.

Leeds have been hit by the news that Rio Ferdinand has submitted a transfer request and although they have rejected the request, the club are making contingency plans in case the £30million-rated defender leaves Elland Road.

Ayala is clearly unhappy with the club’s silence on his future plans.

“The club has not told me anything,” he claimed. “Not if there are offers from other teams, not if I have a contract improvement.”

Martin Hidalgo, the player’s agent, has been in England discussing a possible move for his client. However, Ayala played down the significance of this.

“That Hidalgo has been in Leeds does not mean anything,’ he suggested.
