Newcastle defender Celestine Babayaro has been banned for three matches after admitting a charge of violent conduct following a bust-up with Everton’s Tim Cahill.

The pair clashed during Everton’s 1-0 win, and although the refgeree took no action at the time, the FA brought a charge after viewing television footage of the incident.

Cahill has until 1800 GMT on Wednesday tocontest the charge. Otherwise he will face a Football Association disciplinary commission on Thursday.

Babayaro will miss Wednesday’s League Cup fourth round match at Wigan and will also be suspended from the Premier League matches against Aston Villa and Arsenal.
