Lionel Messi is concentrating his thoughts on Barcelona rather than Argentina, despite breaking his international duck by scoring in Argentina’s 3-2 defeat to Croatia on Wednesday.
There has been much talk of Messi emulatiing his compatriot Maradona in leading Argentina to World Cup glory, but the 18-year-old prodigy insists that for the moment, Barcelona remains his priority.
”Champions League as a competition is absolutely fascinating,” Messi told Corriere dello Sport.
”We are doing great things and I hope, will end up doing great things. I believe Barcelona will get to the final, but against who, it does not matter.
‘I have only scored once with Argentina but it seems I have already made big things.
”It means I’m ready and slowly the dream is coming true.
”I play with enthusiasm, aware of my dreams, for a guy with a big will it is difficult to stop.”
”I owe a lot to Barcelona,” added Messi, when quizzed about the possibility of leaving the club. ”And I am a person that lives very much in the present.
”The present is Barcelona, the city in which I started playing football – that’s what counts.
”I can’t and I don’t want to think of other things.”
