Barcelona will finallycomplete the signing of highly-rated Argentinian midfielder, Juan Roman Riquelme after a long period of uncertainty over the transfer.

Riquelme’s old club, Boca Juniors have agreed a deal with Barca in which the Spanish side will pay £3.8 million for half of the player’s contract and another £3.2 million over a two year period.

The move was confirmed at a press conference at which club president Joan Gaspart spelled out the terms of the contract and his delight at the completion of the deal.

“We’re talking about an exceptional player,” said Gaspart, “We had to make sure he didn’t escape.”

The 24-year-old will join four other non-European players at the Nou Camp. Under current Spanish League rules team are only supposed to have four members from outside Europe in their squad, which could mean either the imminent departure or loaning out of Rivaldo, Saviola, Rochemback, Geovanni or even Riquelme himself, who could be loaned out for the season.
