Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that they will decide this weekend whether to recall to American international striker Landon Donovan from his loan-spell at the San Jose Earthquakes.

A decision is expected next week on a player who impressed at the World Cup finals, but who struggled to make much of an impact in his previous spell at the BayArena.

“A definitive decision over his future will arrive sometime around the middle of next week,” said Bayer-manager Ilja Kaenzig.

“His return will be next January – if at all.”

“We are making good headway in our discussions with Major League Soccer and are fully committed to reaching a solution that will suit all the involved parties,” he added.
