speculation
Valencia coach Rafael Benitez has denied mounting speculation that he is poised to become the next Liverpool coach.
The Liverpool Echo claimed that the 44-year-old will definitely succeed Gerard Houllier at Anfield, but Benitez, who has been linked with a string of top jobs, says he is happy with life at Valencia.
“I am in no hurry to go to Inter Milan, Barcelona or Real Madrid, or any other club,’ Benitez told Valencia-based Radio Nou.
“I want to stay at Valencia. It’s already a big club. It’s clear that I’m not looking for a team.”
Benitez has emerged as the hot favourite to take over as at Anfield after local newspaper reports claimed he was on the verge of joining.
Liverpool issued a statement denying any deal had taken place.
“We have no comment. Chief executive Rick Parry is out of the country and no decision will be made until he is back,” said an Anfield spokesman.
Benitez has led Valencia to two league titles and also to a UEFA Cup triumph this season.
