The English Football Association has charged Dennis Bergkamp with improper conduct following his clash with West Ham United midfielder Lee Bowyer in a Premier League match last month.

Arsenal striker Bergkamp appeared to catch Bowyer in the face with his arm while creating Arsenal’s second goal in a 3-1 win at Highbury.

After examining video evidence of the incident the FA confirmed the charge against Bergkampy. Bergkamp, who claimed at the time any contact was accidental, has 14 days to respond.

The Dutchman was fined £5,000 by the FA in December after being found guilty of stamping on Blackburn Rovers defender Nils-Eric Johansson. He was also warned about his future conduct.
