Birmingham City have reportedly made a £5.5m bid for Manchester United and England midfielder Nicky Butt.
Butt submitted a transfer request to United boss Sir Alex Ferguson earlier this month after spending long spells onthe sidelines this season.
Birmingham chief Steve Bruce is a known admirer of the 29-year-old midfield battler after they played together towards the end of Bruce’s Old Trafford career, but he refused to confirm or deny the rumours of a bid.
“I am not going to comment on speculation, we have made a couple of bids for two Premiership players,” said Bruce.
“I am not going to reveal who they are because that would be wrong and disrespectful.”
Since being placed on the transfer list Butt has been linked with a number of clubs including Middlesbrough, Newcastle and even Spanish giants Real Madrid but none have yet been tempted to make an offer.
