Blackburn have turned down a bid from Manchester City for striker Roque Santa Cruz.

The Paraguay international was brought to Ewood Park by Mark Hughes last summer, with the Welshman now in charge at City.

Santa Cruz enjoyed an impressive first season in England, scoring 26 goals in all competitions following his £3.8million switch from Bayern Munich.

City submitted an offer on Wednesday night but the bid was immeditaely rejected by Balckburn.

A statement on Rovers’ official website read: “A bid came in last night and it was immediately rejected.

“Various Manchester City officials have been advised on a number of occasions that the player would not be for sale.

“We are very disappointed, therefore, that they have continued their interest.”
