Officials from Middlesbrough have confirmed that their Croatia forward Alen Boksic had probably played his last game forclub.
“I think Alen’s time with Middlesbrough is coming to an end but it hasn’t ended yet,” Keith Lamb, the club’s chief executive, told reporters.
“At the moment, Alen is injured and he is still registered to play for Middlesbrough Football Club.
“We are aware of Alen’s age and we intend to sit down in the not-too-distant future with him to determine what will happen between now and the end of the season.
“At the moment, he is a Middlesbrough player and will remain so for the foreseeable future. His contract runs until June 30 and discussions about his future are on-going. When they are resolved we will make an announcement.”
AT the weekend, Boksic told Croatian sports newspaper Sportske Novosti: “I am leaving soccer…I am not going to wait for everyone to see me off with relief.
“I have agreed with Middlesbrough, though my contract runs until the summer.”
Boksic has endured an injury-plagued career and this season he has again struggled to stay fit for any length of time.
Following the arrival of Michael Ricketts from Bolton Wanderers and Malcolm Christie from Derby County, the chances of Boksic reapppearing for Middlesbrough look slim.
