Bolivia defender Miguel Angel Hoyos has tested positive for a banned substance after a World Cup qualifier in June.

The federation reported to the South American Confederation (CSF) that Hoyos had been given the steroid dexamethazone after the match “because he felt dizzy and wanted to vomit”, the Bolivian Football Federation spokesman Javier Silva said.

Silva added that the federation was waiting to hear from the CSF whether Hoyos would be banned but believed the matter would be laid to rest.

Bolivia, who have lost all chance of reaching the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa, lost the June 6 qualifier 1-0 to Venezuela in La Paz.
