Scotland Under-21 coach Rainer Bonhof could make a sensational switch to China with club side Shanghai if the SFA fail to provide him with a new contract.

Shanghai, whose star player is another German and former Rangers man Jorg Albertz, have declared their interest in Bonhof following his success in Scotland.

Speaking to the Scottish Daily Mail the former West Germany international confirmed the rumors.

“There is definite interest from China and, although it is on the other side of the world, as a coach you would be prepared to go anywhere on the globe,” he said.

“They pay very well too and I have met Jorg a few times. He comes from Moenchengladbach like me.

“But, first of all, I will give the first chance to Scotland. I still have a couple of meetings with the SFA.”
