Former Germany defender Hans-Peter Briegel has agreed to become the new coach the Albanian national team.

“We have agreed with Mr Briegel on all the points and have only to go over the formalities now,” Armando Duka told Reuters.

“We would like the team to achieve better results,” Duka added.

“We have reached a verbal agreement,” confirmed Briegel, who played in the 1982 and 1986 World Cup finals.

He will be paid $170,000 to coach Albania to the end of the 2004 Euro qualifying season, Duka said.

Briegel, who has previously coached Turkish sides Trabzonspor and Besiktas, replaces Italian Giuseppe Dossena, who resigned in November.
