Czech Republic coach Karel Bruckner was elated after watching his side come back from 2-0 down to beat Holland and reach the quarter-finals.
“I had a team who would not give in even though we were 2-0 down,” said Bruckner.
“To produce such a turnaround was truly wonderful to watch. It is a fantastic night for our country.
“I can say that was good work out there. I’m not worried about our next opponents, only my own team who, I hope, are going to gain in strength.”
Czech midfielder Pavel Nedved, a tireless performer on the night, was as pleased with the performance as the result.
“To go down 2-0 was a cold shower for us, said the reining European Footballer
of the Year.
“We knew we had to pick things up, and quick.
“Both teams play an aggressive, offensive style. It’s a fun game to play, and to watch.
“We can now save some of our strength in the next game. But we have to remember we haven’t won anything yet.”
Striker Milan Baros who scored the Czech Republic’s equaliser, admitted: “We were down psychologically after that second goal.
“But there was still so much time to play. Once we got the first one back we really fed off the momentum.”
