Nicky Butt is reportedly prepared to stay on at Manchester United until the future of manager Alex Ferguson becomes clearer.

Birmingham City have made a £5million bid to sign Butt but the England midfielder want to wait for the outcome of Ferguson’s contract talks, the Daily Mail reported.

Ferguson is waiting to finalise a two-year extension to his contract which runs out in 2005. However, talks are on hold pending the outcome of a legal dispute with Irish racing tycoon John Magnier over the stud rights of racehorse Rock of Gibraltar.

Magnier and his partner JP McManus increased their stake in United to 25.49 percent on Monday. The move has been interpreted as a way of forcing Ferguson to back off from his legal challenge.

Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham are also reported to be interested in the 29-year-old Butt.
