Brazilian defender Cafu has turned down the chance of a mmove to the Premiership in favour of a switchto J-League side Yokohama Marinos.

The World Cup-winning captain had been linked with several Premier Leagueclubs when his contract expries in the summer, but has decided to to play in Japan from 1 July.

Cafu has signed a deal with the Yokohama side until 1 January, 2006.

The 32-year-old Brazilian full-back became the first player to feature in three World Cup finals when Brazil beat Germany 2-0 last June. That match was played at the Yokohama stadium – which will become his home ground for the next three years.

Cafu joined Roma in 1997 from Palmeiras and was a member of their 2001 Scudetto-winning side.
