Struggling Serie A side Piacenza have sacked Andrea Agostinelli and are expected to confirm the appointment ofLuigi Cagni as their new coach later today.

Agostinelli was fired following a disappointing run which has seen the club collect just two points from their last eight matches. The final straw appears to have been Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat to Brescia which left the club third from bottom of Serie A with 13 points.

Agostinelli becomes the fourth managerial casualty of the 2002-03 Serie A season, following the departures of Giancarlo Camolese from Torino, Bortolo Mutti from Reggina and Loris Dominissini from Como.

The man expected to be appointed in succession to Agostinelli is Luigi Cagni, who would return for a second spell as Piacenza coach. Cagni was in charge between 1990 and 1996, leading the club to Serie A for the firt time intheir history.
