Fabio Capello has played down Juventus’s achievement in emulating the record-equalling achievement of the team from 20 years ago.

Juve’s 3-0 victory at Lecce on Sunday stretched the reigning champions’ winning start to the Serie A season to eight games, which equals the best ever start by the club back in 19985-86.

“Numbers don’t count, they will be important at the end of the season,” said Capello.

“It’s fundamental being fresh and managing the turnover in a good way. We continue calmly on our way without thinking of records.

“There isn’t a comparison between the Juve of 1986, who won eight consecutive matches, and mine.

“Football has changed. I’m happy to have matched their record but the important thing will be to have good numbers at the end of the season.”
