Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the deal to sign Uruguayan goalkeeper Fabian Carini from Juventus, has fallen through.

Last month Carini was photographed wearing an Arsenal shirt as the keeper looked set to agree a one-year loan deal. However, problmes over the Carini’s personal terms have arisen and Wenger has been forced to concede defeat and call off the move.

“It’s over,’ admmitted Wenger. ‘We will look for somebody else and I will make a decision before the West Ham game next week.

“We have a few players in mind but we don’t want to speak about the names as it’s too early.”

Ironically, as one door shuts, another opens and the collapse of the deal could result in Carini moving to Arsenal’s Premier League rivals Manchester United. Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be interested in signing the keeper as cover for Fabian Barthez.

In what could be interpreted as a veiled reference to United, Wenger, admitted: “Maybe you could see him somewhere else in the Premier League.”
