Fabio Capello suffered his first setback as England manager when Liverpoool’s Jamie Carragher confirmed that he would not come out of international retirement.
The newly-appointed England boss had already spoken of his desire for Carragher to return to the international fold.
Asked if he might make an international comeback, the 29-year-old Carragher told Liverpool TV: “I don’t think so,” said Carragher.
“I am happy with the way things are now and I get to have a break with the family as well. I cannot see that changing.”
Talk of Carragher returning has intensified since it emerged England captain John Terry would miss Capello’s first game in charge, a friendly against Switzerland at Wembley on 6 February.
The Chelsea centre-half broke three bones in his right foot during his side’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.
Carragher won a total of 34 caps – the last of those came on 3 June 2006, when England beat Jamaica 6-0 at Old Trafford.
He eventually chose to turn his back on the national team after finding himself below Rio Ferdinand, Sol Campbell, Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King in the pecking order.
