With just one point out of 15, Olympiakos have little but pride to play for against a Real Madrid side in a state of disarray following the axing of coach Wanderley Luxemburgo at the weekend.
“It’s our last match in the group and I hope the end will be better than the beginning,” said Olympiakos coach Trond Sollied.
“No one can claim we’ve been a lucky team this season,” added Sollied.
“Yet we will do our best to win this game, as we have done all our other matches, and are highly motivated to do so.”
Sollied may experiment with his line-up tonight as he seeks to take something form what has been a disappointing campaign for the Greek side.
“I may use some players who haven’t been called on recently,” he said, while
Meanwhile, acting Real coach Juan Ramon Lopez Caro, will definitely pick a weakened selection for his first game in charge.
López Caro travellled to Athens without goalkeeper Iker Casillas, three first-choice defenders, Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, captain Raul Gonzalez and Ronaldo.
“I’m not used to speaking in front of such a crowd and speaking at press conferences is not one of my strengths. However, I hope to do well as a coach and to be judged on my results,” said the newly-appointed coach.
“Our aim is to win and play good football, although Olympiacos are a prestigious club who were difficult to beat in Madrid.”
