Chelsea coach Avram Grant has rubbished speculation linking the club with a move for Werder Bremen midfielder Diego.

Reports had suggested the Diego was a transfer target for the Premier League outfit, but Grant insists he is not interested in the Brazilian.

“Chelsea are linked with so many players it is impossible to comment every time, but sometimes it is necessary to protect the players we have,” said Grant.

“I can say we have no interest in this player. He is a good player of course, but he is not being considered.”

The Diego speculation comes amid reports that Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, who has 14 months remaining on his contract, could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge.

Reports suggest Lampard could leave for as little as £6million in the summer if Chelsea cannot persuade him to sign a new deal.
