Former Spain manager Javier Clemente has confirmed that he has agreed to become the new coach of the Serbian national side.

“It has been agreed, I’m now coach of Serbia and will coach the side through the qualification for Euro 2008,” Clemente told Reuters.

Clemente was sacked by Athletic Bilbao earlier this month after criticising the club’s transfer policy.

He won two Spanish league titles with Athletic Bilbao and managed Spain between 1992 and 1998, leading them to the quarter-finals of the 1994 World Cup and the 1996 European championship.

He has also coached Espanyol, Real Betis, Real Sociedad, Atletico Madrid and French side Marseille.
