Former Portugal boss Humberto Coelho has been apppointed coach of South Korea.

Coelho revealed to Portuguese radio station TSF that he will be in charge until August 2004 with an option to renew until 2006.

Coelho, who resigned after leading Portugal to the semi-finals at Euro 2000, succeeds Guus Hiddink who led South Korea to a semi-final place at last year’s World Cup finals.

“I’m honored to be in this position,’ said Coelho.

‘I am aware that I have a great responsibility to lead South Korea to great achievements. It will be no easy task, but I’m ready for the challenge.”
