Arsenal defender Ashley Cole has made himself available for this weekend’s Premiership opener against Aston Villa.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hinted at leaving Cole out of the side because of the speculation surrounding a possible £20m transfer to Chelsea.

“I have made myself available for selection this weekend,” the 25-year-old told www.stellargroup.co.uk.

“It is now up to the manager whether he decides to play me.”

Cole added: “I maintain I have no problem with the fans and the manager.

“They’ve been very supportive of me throughout my career. I hope the fans understand where my grievances lie.”

Cole has endured a difficult relationship with Arsenal since June 2005 when he was fined for meeting with Chelsea representatives without his club’s knowledge.

In promotional material for his forthcoming autobiography the defender criticised the club for making him a “scapegoat” over the affair.

It now seems that Cole could now start the season with Arsenal, albeit reluctantly.
