There are conflicting reports over whether Tottenham have approached Carlos Queiroz to be their new manager.

Tottenham director of football Frank Arnesen had earlier claimed that Queiroz is in talks over the vacant managerial position at White Hart Lane, but has since denied talking to the Portuguese press.

Queiroz became available after being sacked by Real Madrid on Monday, but despite his disappointing spell at the Bernabeu, the Portuguese coach remains highly-rated in England following his spell as assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

“We are, effectively, in negotiations with Carlos Queiroz for next season,” Arnesen was quoted as saying in O Jogo.

“I expect to have two Portuguese people in the team.”

He was understood to be referring to Helder Postiga, the expensive striker who had a disappointing debut season in The Premiership.

Yet according to Sky Sports News, Arnesen has subsequently denied making any comments to the newspaper.
