Chelsea defender William Gallas has won his first call-up to the French national team after being named in Jacques Santini’s squad for the forthcoming matches with Slovenia and Malta.

Gallas is one of ten English-based players in the squad, which also sees a recall for Leeds’ midfielder Olivier Dacourt and a first call-up for Auxerre’s promising youngster Auxerre starlet Phillipe Mexes.

Manchester United’s Fabien Barthez continues as number one keeper, but his understudy is Gregory Coupet of Lyon, has replaced Ulrich Rame.
