One of Edgar Davids’s agents has revealed that the Juventus midfielder wants to join Barcelona.
Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard is desperate to strengthen his squad following a disappointing start to the season which sees the Catalan club languishing in 16th place in the Primera Division.
“Edgar feels good at Juve and he would have liked to continue playing there until the end of his contract,” his agent Robert Geerlings told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“But, unluckily, he hasn’t got so much space there and Barcelona, for him, is a really good option.
“He likes them – they are one of the most important European teams. There is Rijkaard, who he knows very well, in addition to many other national team players.
“Barcelona need a midfielder with his mentality and especially because they can offer him the possibility to play.
“This is really what Davids wants in the six months that will lead up to the European Championship.”
“I know the clubs are talking.
“I spoke with Juve’s management last week and they told me this thing. I’m waiting for them to call me.
“They don’t want Edgar to go to an Italian club, they prefer he goes abroad.
The only stumbling block to such a switch could be that the club is looking for a loan arrangement until the end of the season while Davids would prefer a permanent deal.
“Davids wants a longer contract thanÊa loan because Barca represent a very good solution.
“I don’t exactly know their financial situation, but surely Edgar doesn’t want to go for a short time.
“We are interested in a definite situation.”
