Real Madrid boss Vicente del Bosque has revealed that he will have no difficulty accomodating David Beckham among his galaxy of stars, should the Manchester United winger be tempted by a move to the Bernabeu.
Answering questions about where Beckham would fit in a team already containing Figo, Raul, Zidane and Ronaldo, del Bosque said: “If David Beckham signs I know how I would use him in my line-up.”
Madrid’s interest in Beckham was confirmed on Tuesday when the club’s sporting director Jorge Valdano admitted: “David Beckham looks like the next big project for us.’
Valdano confirmed that his club were also interested in signing Thierry Henry or Michael Owen butopted for Beckham because of the latter’s immense marketing and merchandise potential.
The speculation was given more credibility when it emerged that the club’s president Florentino Perez confided to newspaper executives that Beckham was the the club’s summer target. “As long as you don’t quote me, yes, that’s true,” he told the assembled newspaper men.
Yesterday, Valdano put the ball in Beckham’s court when he said: “We don’t persuade great players to come. This is the greatest club in the world; we invite them to come and if they turn us down they usually regret it.”
