Boca Juniors have agreed a four-year contract extension with their Argentina forward Marcelo Delgado.

Securing Delgado’s future at the Buenos Aires was a priority for new coach Carlos Bianchi who started work back at the club last week.

Delgado had been the subject of controversy earlier this month when he turned down selection by Marcelo Bielsa for an Argentine national team training squad. His decision to concentrate on his club football has been vindicated by the new contract.

Boca’s old rivals River Plate have confirmed the transfer of outstanding young defender Martin Demichelis to German league leaders Bayern Munich.

Contract formalities are dueto be completed in Germany next Tuesday. The fee is œ3million.

Bayern are also seeking to strengthen defence with the signing of Wolfburg’s German under-21 international Tobias Rau. Wolfsburg have demanded a fee of around œ3.5million but Bayern have responded by offering less than œ1million of threatening to wait until next year when Rau will be out of contract and fee-free.

River Plate are replacing Demichelis by recalling Eduardo German Coudet from his loan to Spanish club Celta Vigo.
