Marcel Desailly will match Didier Deschamps’ record of 103 French caps when he captains his country against the Czech Republic in Wednesday’s friendly.

“A hundred caps was already something special,” the Chelsea defender said.

“It’s great to draw level with Didier and I’m proud of being able to stay at such a level for such a longtime.”

The 34-year-old Chelsea player has missed only 13 internationals since making his debut in a 1-1 draw with Sweden in August, 1993. He has been an integral member of the side in what has been France’s most successful period in international football, winning the World Cup in 1998 and following that up with victory in the 2000 European Championships.
